Designed for children ages 5-12, the Touch’N Slide Calculator is an iPad calculator that goes beyond what other calculators can do and teach by visually representing the meaning of the underlying arithmetic. Children interact kinesthetically with the display, moving up and down the number line as they perform calculations. Initial studies have shown that the calculator enhances children’s cognitive number sense and arithmetic intuition. Your child will not only learn how to perform arithmetic but actually understand how and why it works! More resources, including lesson plans, are available at support.mathisasport.org.

App Features:
o Ability to select addition/subtraction (+/-)
o Ability to toggle between addition and subtraction
o Lets the student explore families of numbers, such as all the numbers that add up to 5, or all the numbers whose difference is 8.
o Allows the student to toggle back and forth between equivalent ways to represent addition or subtraction problems.
o Numbers are shown as intrinsic segments along a continuum.
o The Touch’NSlide Calculator shows in landscape orientation on the iPad. In addition, when the iPad is flipped to the Portrait orientation, additional learning resources, such as instructional videos, are available below the Touch’NSlide Calculator.
